Groups educate students on human trafficking, child labour

Children Emergency Relief Foundation (CERF) recently embarked on sensitisation campaign in secondary schools to educate students on human trafficking and child labour.

The group also campaigned against the use of girls as domestic servants, prostitution, forced marriages and boys as drug peddlers and scavengers, among others, to check the practice.
 
Executive Director, CERF and convener, Abosede Oyeleye, said the foundation, which has been working with vulnerable children and families since 2005, gives hope and transforms the lives of vulnerable and indigent people in the society.
 
Speaking on the theme ‘Human Trafficking and Child Abuse’, the campaign programme, which was held at Ikorudu council, Oyeleye, said the foundation supported more than 10,000 children with various projects over the years, promoted healthier and safe communities through regular community awareness programme.
 


Some of the schools present were – The Christ Army Academy Ikorodu; Living Legacy Schools; Jehovah Jireh Schools; Homat College and Edfan College Ikorodu Lagos.
 
Zonal Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Agboko Modupe, said the agency was committed to stamping out human trafficking.
   
“Most of the human traffickers never stand by their terms and conditions when they take victims abroad. They abuse and exploit them. Government has invested heavily to create awareness on the antics of the human abusers, rescuing victims and arresting cabals of human traffickers,” she said.

Speaking at the event, Rasaki Oseni, an official of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Ikorodu West, cautioned the students never to fall, victim.
 
He urged them to speak out and break the silence when faced with domestic violence or sexual molestation.
