I’ll continue to prioritise workers’ welfare, says Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has vowed to continue to prioritise the welfare of workers in the state The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Labour Matters, Adebayo Titilola-Sodo, who represented the governor, made the call during the 5th triennial delegates conference of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo State chapter, which held at National Museum and Monument of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan.

 
At the conference, the trade union elected new executives.The election was conducted by the Secretary General of TUC, Nuhu Toro, after which Olatubosun Olabiyi emerged as chairman, Oluranti Oluwemimo as vice chairman, Balogun Kehinde (secretary), Abioye Adeyemi (treasurer) and Fatokun Oyebola (PRO).
 
Others are Olufemi Adewumi (auditor), Kamorudeen Idowu (financial secretary) and Sotiminu Funmilayo as chairperson of the women’s commission.
  
The governor wished the unionists a peaceful conference and subsisting industrial harmony.There is no basis for comparison; we know what happened before 2019 and what is happening now. The governor has prioritised the welfare of workers and will continue to do so,” he said. 

Rasheedat Akinrinde, who was the guest speaker at the event, spoke on ‘Roles of Labour Movement in Ensuring Good Governance in Nigeria.’ Akinrinde said the current fuel scarcity has ripple effects on all sectors.
  
“It has greatly affected everyone. The value of the minimum wage has been eroded. Government is asking us to pay for their inefficiency. 
  
“We are not supposed to experience this. It will continue as long as we are not refining oil here,” she said.
