Institute charges South South leaders on jobs creation for youths

The Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) has called on governments of the South-South zone to create jobs for the youths through massive industrialisation of the region.

This, the institute said, would attract investors and urged the youths to refrain from acts inimical to a peaceful environment for the investors to operate.

Chairman, South-South zone of NIM, Emmanuel Okafor and its Chairman, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Emmanuel Umana, said in a communiqué at the end of South-South zonal Management Submit held in Uyo, that an effective planning and economic management at regional and national levels would bring about integrated development of the zone.

“Effective and productive leadership in the South-South or elsewhere, must be seen to be transparent and accountable to the people. This increases goodwill among the people and the chances of elected leaders to succeeding in their endeavours.

“This promotes legitimacy, acceptance and most importantly, role modeling,” they said.The body advised politicians to always provide good governance and stressed that without free and fair elections, good governance could not be achieved.

NIM said transparency, accountability, rule of law, creation of employment opportunities, access to basic infrastructure, security of lives and property and timely dispensation of justice, among others, should be given priority.

At the summit with the theme: Good Governance, a Recipe for Sustainable Growth and Development in the South-South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria, the institute called on leaders from the zone to strive to deliver good governance to the people.

“That is the only way the region will experience sustainable growth and meaningful development in leaps and bounds,” it said.It further advised that political, judicial and administrative institutions in the zone should be strengthened as it would promote good governance, adding that, efforts should also be geared towards the common good of all rather than individual interest.

“Good governance ensures that political, social and economic priorities are based on broad consensus in society and that the voice of the poor and vulnerable are heard in decision making, especially in the allocation of resources.

“Above all, there is the need for political restructuring of the country so that the South-South states can control their resources for the benefit of their people,” it added.
