Institute, others restate support for IDPs

AS part of its humanitarian services, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), Foundation for Peace and Security Education (FOPSE) and Develop and Save the Nigerian Child Initiative (DASTNCI) recently donated relief materials worth millions of naira to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Adamawa, Maiduguri and Yobe States in Abuja.

Donating the materials to the IDPs during a visit to the camp, Director General, Prof. Oshita O. Oshita said the institute is felicitating with “our brothers and sisters displaced from their homes due to violent conflicts, insurgents and natural disasters”, adding that this initiative would help draw the attention of governments, non-governmental organisations and individuals to the huge humanitarian challenges posed by these displacements.

According to him, the project seeks to guarantee for the security and the protection of rights and freedom of IDPs to take refuge in any part of the country, stressing that they should demand their proper rehabilitation when it becomes safe for them to return home.

He said: “The Institute is already beginning to anticipate the day after Boko Haram as it has set up study group on the ‘Post Boko Haram Nigeria’. As the apex arm of government with the mandate for peace building, we are developing strategies for sustainable peace at the end of this nightmare.

“We call on all IDPs wherever they may be taking refuge to cling to the fact that Nigerians are truly their brothers keepers and will always respond positively when they call.
