IPIMD to bridge manpower gap in industrial sector

THE Institute of Professional Industrialists and Management Development (IPMD) is poised to tackle the existing gap in the manpower sector in the country.

The newly elected Chairman of the Board of Trustee of the Institute of Professional Industrialists and Management Development (IPMD), Dr. Reuben Jaja, who disclosed this after a new board was elected in Abuja, explained that the Institute is the first of its kind in Nigeria, established to promote professionalism in the study and practice of industrial management in Nigeria and to support capacity building for the nation’s industrial sector.

He said the establishment of the Institute will assist in reducing over N3 billion overseas training costs currently incurred by the nation and mitigate the impact on the nation’s foreign reserves.

His words: “The vision of the Institute is to be the foremost private-sector-led Industrial Institute in Nigeria and in Africa as is obtained in other industrialized nations”. The mission is to build professional skills and capacities of the Nigerian industrialists, entrepreneurs, managers and other industrial stakeholders, and to support the economic growth of Nigerian industries and the free enterprise system.”

He further informed that the IPIMD has formed international alliances with relevant industrial development agencies in other countries and is currently a member of the African-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the United States of America.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Patrons, a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu acknowledged the timely inauguration of the Institute and expressed appreciation to the founders and the BOTs for the initiative of establishing an industrial institute in Nigeria, in line with similar organizations in other industrialized nations.

Mantu also expressed satisfaction with the caliber of members of the BOTs, BOPs and the Steering Committee of the Institute. While thanking them for a job well done, he submitted that the Institute would be the platform Nigeria needs to bridge the manpower gap in the industrial sector.

The Secretary of the BOTs, Paschal Ogechi Harry said that the Institute has come a long way as a National Industrial Institute and the new Board of Trustees (BOTs) is a reflection of its national outlook. He called on all industrial stakeholders in the country to support the initiative and vision to enable the Institute deliver on its mandates.
He solicited supports of the private, government and international agencies for the Institute’s events and programmes, which include: the distinguished fellows award, the international industrial summit and exhibition, the Technology trade fair amongst others.

The Board of Patrons includes: Bamanga Tukur CON; Oba Akin Otudeko CON and Senator Ibrahim Mantu.
