Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has appointed Dr Ubadire Agua as the new head of the Public Relations Unit. Agua, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Communication Studies with specialisation in Corporate Communication from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was appointed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe, via a letter signed by the Registrar of the University, Dr Nkeiruka Mbanaso.

Agua started his career in the Public Relations (PR) unit of the university in December 2005 as Higher Executive Officer (Public Relations). He has worked in several other units, including the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), for four years. He rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Chief Public Relations Officer in 2021 until he was appointed Head of the PR unit,

He attended the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State and Kaduna Polytechnic, where he obtained National and Higher National Diplomas in Mass Communications respectively.

He also attended the University of Uyo for a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Business and Organisational Communication, capping the academic degrees in 2022 at the University of Port-Harcourt with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Communication Studies with specialization in Corporate Communication.

Agua is a member of many professional and academic associations within and outside Nigeria. He was inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in 2006, the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE – Nigeria) in 2009, and the Institute of Place Management at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 2013. He has been a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) since 2023.
