The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Simbi Wabote and General Manager Capacity Building Division of the Board, Dr. Ama Ikuru are now Fellows of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

The duo was recognized for their outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and Local Content Development in the oil and gas industry.

Wabote and Ikuru were decorated alongside other 38 eminent engineers at the 10th fellowship conferment lecture and ceremony held in Abuja on last week Friday.

The President of the NSE, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu and Chairman of the Board Fellows, Engr. Felix Atume, decorated the new Fellows.

Speaking after the bestowment, Wabote thanked the NSE Council for bestowing the honour of fellowship on them.

He noted that all the nominees were senior practitioners of the profession, who had made impressive contributions to the growth of engineering.

He also promised that new fellows would continue to fly the flag of the society and uphold the responsibilities expected of them.

Speaking during the ceremony, President of NSE, Adekunle Mokuolu said Society would continually speak to infrastructural deficit in the country until Nigeria significantly reduces the huge infrastructure deficit afflicting the country.

While congratulating politician that won various elections across the country, Mokuolu said now that Nigerians have done their part by voting for candidates of their choice, it is now the responsibility of the victorious politicians to make life bearable for the people.

His words: “I hereby send a reminder to our politicians that Nigerians have, once again, done their parts by going out to queue under the sun to vote for them, even at the risk of losing their lives in some places. Beyond the elections, what these poor Nigerians expect is for the politician to fulfil their own part of the bargain by making life better by providing basic critical infrastructure. It is such a simple expectation.”

He assured all elected Engineers that the NSE is well positioned to make very light, the burden of delivering on their campaign promises so that the people will willingly give them another mandate.

“And then we would have proven to Nigerians that only Engineers can deliver true democratic dividends. I believe that it will still be consistent with democratic principles if Nigerians in all the 36 States demand that only Engineers should be their Governors and Deputy Governors after enjoying your skilful management of resources and State affairs for their wellbeing. That is my prayer for Nigeria,” he stated.

He tasked leaders across the three tiers of government to put the interests of the people first, saying, “leaders who are truly leaders put their own interests in abeyance while pursuing the general interest and seeking ways to move the populace into a prosperous future. Leaders sacrifice what they have to protect and save what belongs to the people. The Nigerian political elite must realize that it is only when we feel protected and cared for that we can march behind them and proudly calling ourselves their followers. I personally hold the conviction that the worst disability is the disability of the mind. A disabled mind is one that is filled with the thoughts that the wellbeing and happiness of others must be subjugated to their own wellbeing and happiness.”
