Trade Union Congress affliate – Precision, Electrical & Related Equipment Senior Staff Association (PERESSA)

The Precision Electrical and Related Equipment Senior Staff Association (PERESSA), has urged members to work towards urgent repositioning of the association for effectiveness and realisation of its full potential.

The Acting National President of the association, David Ogbu Adi, who made the appeal recently at the association’s Seventh Triennial Delegates’ Conference, in Lagos, charged the newly elected executives to create workable developmental solutions to the success of the union.

According to him, in spite of some level of growth in the ICT, telecommunication and industrial automation equipment sub-sector, it has not made much impact on the growth of the union.

He noted that the major challenge hindering the union’s growth is hostility towards organising efforts in companies where they sought to establish presence.

On effective service delivery to members, Adi said the union is working hard to make significant improvement by organising training to boost capacity of the secretariat staff and branch executives.

While commending the members for their immense support to the union, he also thanked their employers, whom he said have relentlessly supported and encouraged the union over the years.

Chairman of the occasion, and a representative of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kenneth Mokwenye, admonished the union to always present their challenges officially to the central labour centre as an affiliate for quick response.

He bemoaned the economic challenges bedevilling the country, which have resulted in many companies exiting Nigeria.

While accusing some companies of involving themselves in anti-labour practices, he said the TUC would not hesitate to picket such companies in the near future if they do not desist from such practices.

While assuring them of the congress’ support, Mokwenye, advised them to remain strong and operate in one accord.
