Professionals seek digital infrastructure to create wealth

The Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), has said that Nigeria can create wealth and sustain economic growth through adequate provision of digital infrastructure.

According to the Council, digital infrastructure will deepen technological knowledge and skills to compete, collaborate, and connect in a way that drives the economy forward.

The body made the disclosure at the second CPN media executive forum held in Lagos.President and Chairman-in-Council, CPN, Prof. Charles Uwadia, charged the government to invest in research and development in the country, to meet global standards and deepen innovation.

Uwadia added that the Nigeria tech ecosystem is still facing challenges like infrastructure, security, and unfriendly government policies.

“The industry is growing faster than the regulations we have. We want the government to keep up with this pace. The CPN focuses on connectivity, access and security. We want to ensure that professionals are the ones in charge of systems operations in Nigeria,” he added.He stated that the Council would train and induct professionals to expand membership, harmonise and control operations.

“This is because the Act 49 of 1993 that established the Council requires all persons and organisations seeking to engage in IT training/education, sale and or use of computing facilities, and the provision of professional services in computational or related computational machinery in Nigeria to be registered by the council and licensed to carry out such activities,” Uwadia said.

On the 2019 IT Assembly, Registrar/Secretary, CPN, Allwell Achumba said that it will hold from June 26 to 27, at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja with the theme ‘Digital infrastructure: Defining the Next Step.’
Achumba added that technology is the fulcrum of any thriving economy and that the Council has chosen to focus on this invaluable tool to propel the economy and drive global competitiveness.

“The IT Professional’s Assembly is an event that provides information on emerging technology and it is expected that recommendations that would impart positively on the industry and the nation would be made,” he added.
