Nigerian entrepreneur and social investor, Temitayo Etomi has emerged the 2018 Chevron Eisenhower Fellow, following her successful completion of the 2018 Eisenhower Global Fellowship programme.

Chevron Corporation, one of the Eisenhower Fellowships longstanding corporate sponsors, endowed the award through a generous gift to the Eisenhower Fellowships.

The award is granted annually to outstanding fellows who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields.

Temitayo Etomi, who is the founder and CEO of Redwire Marketing Group, also established the Young Business Leaders of Nigeria, a not-for-profit organization to help reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

The Young Business Leaders (YBL) of Nigeria network, which was founded in 2015, provides free tools (such as laptop computers and books), mentoring and training in specific business, finance and leadership skills to young Nigerians in states with the highest unemployment numbers.

The programme also provides capital in the form of debt or equity for deserving members of its entrepreneurial community to enable them to grow their businesses and help them create jobs.

By 2018, the organization had grown its membership base to more than 40,000 members comprising 6,245 entrepreneurs. Through its various programs and platforms, the YBL has also facilitated the employment of 66,129 unemployed Nigerians.

Temitayo Etomi adapted President Barack Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship Program to achieve these results and is using it to create employment systems, with the aim of reducing unemployment across the country.

Erin Hillman, Eisenhower’s Vice President of Programs, congratulated Temitayo and emphasized that the award was granted for her commitment to making the world a better place and improving the ability to access information and opportunity.

Chevron General Manager for Africa and Latin America, Mamadou Beye, who is also the Chairman of the Niger Delta Partnership Initiative, expressed the organizations appreciation to Etomi and underscored Chevron’s absolute commitment to economic development in the Niger Delta region and across the entire country.
