‘Skill acquisition crucial to poverty alleviation’

Skills acquisition

Chairman, Board of Trustees, Sharon Education Services Limited, Charles Ighele said the time has come for an average Nigerian to be skilled in one vocation or the other as it was the way out to fight poverty.

At a ‘Get Skilled’ seminar held recently, Ighele said skills acquisition was the way to go, as white-collar jobs are rare and should not be depended on for survival.

He said the organisation was coming up with a youth development centre where Nigerians irrespective of their religion or tribe would be trained in diverse vocations.

He said young Nigerians would be trained in auto mechanics, agriculture, and many other vocational skills. Ighele also called on the government to focus on entrepreneurial development and skill acquisition with particular interest in agriculture to make Nigerians gainfully employed.

Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Inspire Dreams Foundation, Dr. Cyril Eluma, said the purpose of the training was to make people discover their talents, which would make them properly use their opportunities, adding that three keys to success in life that every young man should know our time, talent and treasure. He, therefore, admonished every young man and average Nigerian to invest in the self-discovery of their talents.
