Children’s literacy and reading will get a boost, as Clever Clogs Books is set to gather some renowned Nigeria’s children’s book authors, illustrators and storytellers in a fest on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Titled, Akada Children’s Book Festival (ACBF), and holds at the British Council premises, Ikoyi, Lagos, the day-long event aims to spark and sustain a healthy literary lifestyle from childhood and also to encourage literary creativity in the country.

According to organisers, the festival is targeted at children, parents, teachers, children’s book authors and illustrators. One of the highpoints of the day would be the launch and public reading of the book, Why Do You Wash Your Hands? authored by Olubunmi Aboderin Talabi.
According to the author, who doubles as publisher of children’s books and the convener of the festival, the new book is a creative and engaging children’s picture book.

“‘Why Do You Wash Your Hands? encourages simple yet effective hygiene tips. It is published in a combo set of four languages — English, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. So, it promotes indigenous language usage in children’s literature; it is also the first Nigerian children’s picture book to contain stickers in four languages.

According to Talabi, the goal of Clever Clogs books is to encourage a perfect story time and bonding session between parents and children, as well as to assist children’s cognitive development. Aside attracting book lovers, this maiden edition of the fiesta would showcase some of the publishing company’s children’s picture books including, Diary Of A Toddler’, Kobold The Antelope, Tobi Visits The Conservatory and others.
