Stakeholders at the launch of three books by Professor Atsiangbe Henry have attributed Nigeria’s economic challenges to weak governance structures and the failure to deploy competent professionals into leadership positions.
The books focusing on
Wisdom to manage risk management, Corporate government and compliance for organisation, and project accounting were unveiled at an event that drew participants from academia, industry and the public sector.
Delivering his review, Industrial Relations Consultant, Pastor John Odion, said the publications provide critical insights for sectors such as banking, finance, oil and gas, and small businesses, noting that their relevance extends to both organisational management and household decision-making.
He expressed concern over what he described as the persistent mismatch between leadership roles and capacity, arguing that Nigeria’s economic difficulties are largely traceable to poor governance choices.
Odion said, “When individuals with the right expertise are not given responsibility, the system suffers. The economy reflects the quality of leadership, and where competence is lacking, the impact is felt by citizens.”
He also urged Nigerians to take greater responsibility in the leadership selection process, stressing that citizens have a role in ensuring that capable individuals emerge in positions of authority.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ime Udoko, highlighted the depth of the author’s work, particularly its focus on resource management and accountability.
According to him, the corporate governance component of the books underscores the need for equitable distribution and management of resources, while also drawing attention to global governance trends.
He further noted that the project management aspect of the work provides insights into why projects fail, emphasising that success should be measured by outcomes and long-term value.
“Beyond execution, the real test of any project is the value it delivers after completion,” Udoko said.
In his address, the author, Professor Henry, described the books as products of years of research and personal commitment to knowledge development.
He said the works were inspired by the need to provide practical frameworks for navigating modern economic and business realities, particularly in an era driven by digital transformation.
“These books reflect the importance of planning, innovation, leadership and governance. They are meant to guide individuals and organisations toward sustainable success,” he said.
Professor Henry added that effective project costing, sound governance structures and a clear understanding of risk are essential for economic growth and institutional stability.
He urged Nigerians to embrace patience, discipline and continuous learning, noting that a combination of wisdom, knowledge, skill and attitude remains vital for success in any sector.
In a goodwill message, the Chancellor of European American University, Jerry Kesly, congratulated the author, noting that his achievement reflects the institution’s values and academic excellence.
The university said the publication of the books marks both a personal milestone for the author and a moment of pride for the institution.
“Your achievement reflects the excellence and values you embodied during your time with us. This milestone is not only a personal success but a proud moment for your alma mater,” the statement read.
Participants at the event commended the author’s contribution to scholarship and called for broader engagement with the ideas presented in the books as part of efforts to improve governance and economic outcomes in the country.
