TYPICAL of the on-going Etisalat-sponsored competition, last night’s result show was laced with tension and unexpected surprises, as the vocal power house, Preye bowed out of the competition after accumulating the least number of votes.

With this result, the small but mighty, Dolu, the King of Originality & Fuji, K-Peace, and the soulful singer, Nex2, have emerged as the top three contenders for the Season V Idol crown.

Strangely, the show’s host, IllRymz, had asked Preye how she would feel if she were evicted that night and she responded, “it would definitely hurt, but life will go on.”

As soon as she was announced as the evicted contestant, Preye froze momentarily on stage before regaining her calmness. However, the judges were displeased with the result and Dede Mabiaku said Preye deserved to be in the top three stage.

Dede said, “I am proud to say that in my lifetime, I met a star and that is you. You are big, bold and beautiful.’’

Manager, Sponsorships, Etisalat Nigeria, Orah Egwu, commended Preye for her courage and calmness. Egwu said, “We have watched these young talents rise to the level to which they are now and it is heart-wrenching to witness their evictions. Nonetheless, it is a competition and there has to be only one winner.”

One of the top 3 contestants, Nex2, who didn’t make it this far the last time he was in the competition, expressed gratitude to fans for keeping faith in him. He said, “I feel blessed and humbled, and my heart is filled with gratitude. When I started my race for this season in Benin, I did not think I was going to get to the top 100 but for every stage I have scaled through, I am grateful.”

This season’s winnings include, a cash prize of N7.5 million, a brand new car and a recording deal with Universal Music Company worth N7.5 million, amongst other prizes.
