Rotarians rally support for maternal, child care, donate gift items

As part of efforts aimed at improving maternal and child support, members of Rotary Club of Lagos Central recently donated baby blankets, wipes and diapers to mothers and pregnant women at Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Primary Healthcare Centre, Anikantamo, Lagos Island.

In an interview with The Guardian, President of the club, Rotarian Folashade Oluwa-Giwa said, ‘today we are carrying out our Child and Maternal health programme, it is one of the focus areas of Rotary. This is the first time we are organising the programme in this centre.’

Specifically, she disclosed that a total number of about fifty mothers were attended to.

Expressing appreciation, Officer-in-Charge of the Primary Healthcare Centre Folarin Olubunmi said, ‘we are happy for what happened today. We didn’t anticipate this. God will continue to strengthen the organisers and we want more of this.’

Earlier, the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) took place at the The Citizen and Leadership Training School Apapa.

Members of the Rotary club of Lagos Central sponsored twenty-one candidates to the programme. It was a week-long programme with over 400 participants in attendance.

According to  the Youth Chair, Rotarian Nat-Ogbebor Gloria, ‘the programme gave participants the opportunities to be trained in various skills such as computer studies, handcrafts,cooking,public speaking & presentations among other.

To her, ‘it was a worthwhile experience for the participants and they all looked forward to another year.’

The closing ceremony was grandiose with dignitaries, District governor, past governors in attendance.
