There may be no love in Lagos but at London, Show Dem Camp, The Cavemen., and David Nsikak were showered with adorable ovations and warm reception as they took over the HERE at Outernet event centre on 26 November 2024 to spread the gospel of their joint-album—No Love in Lagos.
The album touches on themes affecting men’s mental health in general and how the hustle-bustle spirit of Lagos deviates their attention from savouring the taste of a finely cooked meal that a romantic relationship could be. It also showcased both rappers introspecting on the satisfaction derived from the paper chase while drawing parallels with their decades-long lifespan. The Cavemen. vocals and David’s dexterous play of the guitar served as the perfect backdrop for the project’s ambience.
No Love in Lagos concert, the first of its kind, held in the buzzing city of London, England, an immersive live music experience, championed by SDC’s “palmwine sound” and the culture-preserving Highlife instrumentation by The Cavemen. David Nsikak, on his part, showed why he is a celebrated guitarist, with each strum of the string evoking a homely feel even for the overseas audience.
Doors were set to open by 7 PM on the D-Day – November 26. The eager London fans tropped in mass, queueing for their allocated space as early as 5:30 PM. By the time HERE at Outernet officially opened for fans to roll in, they were more than ready to witness a once-in-a-lifetime audio-visual experience; filling up the 2000-capacity venue in record time!
By 8:15 PM, Dipo and his band were live to set the tone for the night. A first-time London performance for him and his band made it even more memorable. Dipo played Ginger Me, and Ain’t No Love which the audience loved every bit of the live African instrumentation and gracious vocals by the skilled veteran and his crew.
Show Dem Camp, The Cavemen., and David Nsikak did not delay to repay the Tribe (fans) excitement with a worthy intro performance that had every one singing each lyric heartily. The truss stage design, safety barricades, and other props were appropriately positioned, ensuring the connection between the headliners and beloved Tribe remained strong all through.
A stunning sight it was for the crowd as they witness Nsikak David’s artistry come to life. He showed he is more than a guitarist through a well-curated exhilarating setlist. His display reminded everyone of David’s humble yet magnificent delivery as a vocalist begining.
A worthy mention during this concert was when The Cavemen. took over for a solo set. They performed fans’ favourites such as Osondu, Adaugo, and Selense. The soothing vocals and guitar play by Kingsley Okorie matched the freak of Benjamin’s drumset and naturally-pitched falsetto. That chemistry ignited euphoria in the minds of everyone present!
The icing on the cake came through guest acts in Moelogo, Obongjayar, Tim Lyre, and Ruti (to name a few). The technical crew also deserve accolades. From Dr. Nike (event manager) to Taiwo George assisted by Ijeoma Ikokwu in the project management and artists’ welfare department; everyone deserves special praise for bringing into fruition a fantastic night of live music.
Overall, Show Dem Camp, The Cavemen., and David Nsikak thrilled the fans, leaving them on a high, fiending for more of such ecstatic live musical experience. The ticket was worth every penny.
