WIzkid performing at the university of Ilorin, Kwara State, will hold its 31th convocation and 40th anniversary ceremony from October 19 to 22. The four-day event will feature, among other activities, National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), which will stage a play titled Iba, a dance drama on Tuesday, October 20 at the university’s Multipurpose Hall. Time is 4pm.
National Theatre of Ghana (NTG) will follow suit the following day with another drama performance titled Firestorm at the same venue by 5pm. The event will, however, open with an exhibition at the University Auditorium base immediately after the Vice Chancellor’s press briefing and will be followed by a convocation play later in the day, titled Tornadoes Full of Dreams, written by Bode Sowande and performed at the university’s Performing Arts Theatre. There will also be a film show titled Alaaru by Tayo Afolayan, an alumnus of the university by 10am at the University’s Auditorium.
In a statement, head of the University’s Corporate Affairs Directorate Mr. Kunle Akogun said that Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the chairman of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) would deliver the university’s anniversary lecture on Friday, October 23.
The date incidentally serves as the university’s founder’s day. The title of the lecture is ‘Africa’s Agenda 2063: Ending Poverty and Ensuring Prosperity in Africa.’
Akogun added that apart from the award of prizes, first degrees and diplomas, other activities scheduled for the week-long events include the investiture of the university’s 5th Chancellor, HRH (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the Emir of Katsina on Thursday, November 22.
He said that a convocation lecture entitled ‘Educational Reform and Nation Building in Nigeria’ will be delivered by Prof. Jacob Kehinde Olupona of Harvard university, Massachusetts, U.S.
The convocation will also include the unveiling of a commemorative book UNILORIN @40: The Soaring Eagle as well as commissioning of about 22 new projects executed by the university administration in the last one year by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, October 23. There will also be an alumnus a re-union luncheon at the Multipurpose Hall by 4pm on October 21.
