The artist, Dauda Mohammed, Is set for his latest solo exhibition, titled, Toys for Troys. The show holds from September 2 to 12 at Signature Beyond Art Gallery, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
Mohammed’s two-wheeler theme is expected to expand the scope of art appreciation and add freshness to the Lagos art scene. His mixed media work goes back into history, especially of ancient Greek men, and appropriating their trajectory in his rich art.
With pieces such as Harley Bucherer, Vespa Piaggio, Vespa Dior (New noble scooter), and quite a number of “Harley’ series, he interrogates thematic issues. His mixed media of nails on board, with automobile paints and acrylic, he unveils the beauty of creativity from two-wheeler.
Mohammed’s creative ouevre takes him to the legendary Troy town of ancient Greek where men left the legacy of great things.
For the artist, bringing the past into modern era, he has chosen ‘toys’ for the 21st century men on two wheelers. As a favourite outlet that prides itself of showing fresh artistic ventures, Signature Beyond said the gallery is delighted to show Toys for Troys, a theme that “gives instances of fabricated machines for warriors.”
The gallery noted that the artist has added his strokes and palette to the legendary Troy, using contemporary art form. Mohammed has shown at Signature Beyond’s many modern and contemporary art auctions since 2019 till date.
