The Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) recently hosted a national exhibition in Abuja to celebrate and honour distinguished artists across the country.
The event showcased a wide range of artworks that reflected the creativity and talent of Nigerian artists, who have continued to shape the nation’s art landscape.

Held at the Art Pavilion in Garki, Abuja, the week-long exhibition featured more than 70 artists working across various styles and media.
It also included workshops designed to enhance artistic skills and promote innovation among participants.

The exhibition recognised excellence in several categories, including painting, sculpture, drawing, textile design, and mixed media, with honorary mentions awarded to outstanding contributors.
A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion involving artists, critics, and enthusiasts, who exchanged ideas on contemporary trends in the art world and explored opportunities for collaboration within the creative sector.

Speaking at the event, SNA President Muhammad Sulaiman reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to providing platforms for artists to showcase their work and gain international recognition. He also emphasised the potential of the creative industry as a viable alternative to oil dependency and mass unemployment.

The General Secretary of SNA, Rowland Goyit, noted that the association is also promoting diaspora artists through its Emerging Diaspora Artist category. He outlined key criteria for recognition, including consistency in artistic output, visibility of work, and a commitment to portraying Nigeria positively.

According to him, these standards are essential for building strong reputations and ensuring global impact for Nigerian artists.
Also speaking, Vice Chairman of the North Central zone and Chairman of the exhibition organising committee, Ezekiel Udubrae, highlighted the series of workshops and discussions held during the exhibition, noting that they contributed to the creation of remarkable works displayed at the event.

He also stressed the importance of integrating diaspora artists into Nigeria’s creative ecosystem.
Overall, the exhibition was described as a major step in strengthening support for both emerging and established artists, while further promoting the growth of Nigeria’s art community.
