Terra Kulture Brings Batonga To Maryland Today

Today, Terra Kulture brings Batonga to Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos, for its second performance showcase after it was first staged at Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School, Barig, last month, where the reception was ecstatic among secondary school students.

Buoyed by the success of the first outing, Batonga today comes to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, 370 Ikorodu Road, Maryland.

Time is 3pm. This is in continuation of Terra Kulture’s resolve to take theatre to public places and local communities, particularly secondary schools, and preach messages of awareness on common social problems.

Directed by dance expert Gbenga Yusuf, Batonga highlights the plights of young people who are given away to supposedly rich uncles or aunts in the cities for employment or education purposes.

However, these patrons almost always fall to do so and subject these young ones to all forms of evils like child labour and sex objects. Batonga is a timely warning to parents and wards.

Although young folks are the focus of the play, its message is actually directed at adults who make decisions to give away young people under their care in the quest for a better life that soon turns sour. The performance has the support of Ford Foundation.
