With Miss Arts pageant, gallery rejigs culture appreciation

Concerned about the gradual erosion of culture among youths, the Oshodi Arts Gallery, in conjuction with the Federal Ministry of Tourism and National Orientation, has initiated a cultural pageant tagged, Miss Arts.

Aimed at stressing beauty, arts and culture, the Miss Arts Nigeria Beauty Pageant show, holding on November 7, will be a personal development opportunity for the girl child from the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Abuja.

According to the chief organiser, Dr. Paul Oshodi, “the contestants that become part of the pageant will gain confidence, style and poise in an increasingly competitive world, growing and flourishing their personal career goals while acting as role models in their community and beyond. It is not just about the crown on the head, but the crown in the heart.”

The gallery brand adviser added, “The pageant will promote art and craft of Nigerian culture globally, it will also empower the girl child and synergise creativity and talent between the art and beauty industry.

“It will also add more value to the Nigerian culture using art and craft as a catalyst to help develop wealth creation among Nigerian youths. As such, contestants will be taught how to make different forms of crafts such as adire, carving, weaving, painting and others.”

The contestants, on their part, are expected to display the best aspects of their roots, beauty and cultural heritage using made in Nigeria products connecting art, culture and tourism values. They must also understand local dance steps, food, poem, folklore and more. They are expected to know the fabrics, hair styles that represents their cultures as well as know how to use grinding stone, pound yam, make amala, and the soups that are suitable for these foods.

The contestants will win attractive prizes. They include, a car for the winner and others prizes for the first and second runners up.
