To further deepen the history of Ahun-Ekiti town in Efon Council of Ekiti State, Omoba Emmanuel Ajewole has come up with a book titled, The History of Ahun- Ekiti, The Cradle of Efon.
Unveiling the book in Lagos before journalists, the author said he wrote the book from information he got from his father, a traditional ruler of Ahun, his grandfather and maternal grandparents who were all of royal blood.
He noted that the book is to correct the errors and misinformation in an earlier publication by one of the indigenes of the town, saying that misinformation, if not corrected, the coming generation may not see them as the truth and the real story of the town.
Ajewole noted that the book does not only fill the gap so created, but also tells the true story of how Ahun became a recognised autonomous community.
The author revealed that the book becomes a must-read owing to the fresh twist in the agitation for the autonomy and recognition of Ahun as an autonomous town, saying all the information presented in the book have already be documented with the state for any researcher to crosscheck in case of any doubt.
He said: “Some of the facts contained in this book were what that were presented to the Ekiti State government, while demanding for the autonomy and recognition of Ahun and you all know that truth cannot be hidden forever. Ekiti State government found our demand worthy and it was granted.”
Disclosing that it took his team 15 years to crosscheck their facts and come up with the book, Ajewole said Ahun-Ekiti long walk to autonomy came with a lot of challenges and it is necessary for him to document them for the coming generation.
“It is sad to know of how we are gradually losing our history and traditional stories and those who don’t mind history cannot make history. That is my main reason for writing the book.”
According to him, the book will be officially launched to as part of activities to commemorate the first anniversary of Ahun-Ekiti autonomous city.
