Rising artiste, Oluwaseun Olaegbe a.k.a Skilzar is a singer, songwriter, and tech entrepreneur. The Lagos based crooner is an emerging artiste who is gradually becoming a force in the Nigerian music industry.
Recounting how his music journey began he said: “Growing up my reality has always been music, from having parents that enjoy music and won’t stop playing it in the house, to performing songs on stages at the end-of-year parties in my primary school days. Consciously I started writing songs in my final year days back in secondary school. While at Lagos State Model College Igbonla, I and my seat partner then Obinna( great guy) would write songs and just analyze the rhymes and lyrics for fun. I got into university (Ladoke Akintola University Of Technology) and joined a gospel dance group called TLP, formed a music department within the group where we performed on campus shows and student fellowships. it was fun. I graduated and started working on more songs with the likes of Sugarboy A1, GT da Guitarman, Shoba King, Xcess, and other awesome people I met in the neighborhood”.
Skilzar who is also the founder of Skilzar Digital, a digital media business has revealed how he combines his tech-driven business with music.
“At first, it was quite challenging trying to balance both, had to pause music to learn some tech skills needed to build my business. But over time, I got used to it. Making music comes naturally to me and I find the process relaxing and therapeutic. Tech on the other hand requires conscious effort. So whenever I’m stressed from running my tech business, I just make good music which relaxes me”.
On how he coined the moniker, Skilzar, he said: “Skilzar was coined from the word Skills. I recall that back then, my friends call me Skillz because of my multifaceted creative nature. I enjoy designing and creating. So I just coined the name Skilzar to make me unique”.
