A co-defendant in the ongoing trial involving former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja that he personally wrote and signed his statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after reading and understanding the cautionary words attached to it.

The defendant, Aminu Baba Kusa, made the admission during cross-examination in a trial-within-trial, which was convened to determine whether his extra-judicial statement is admissible as evidence in court.

Kusa had earlier claimed that the statement was obtained under duress and in violation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015. However, during questioning, he acknowledged that he wrote and signed the statement voluntarily following a search conducted at his residence, and that the content reflected the outcome of that search.

The prosecution also challenged his claim of being detained for 30 days, pointing out court records showing that he appeared before a judge multiple times within that period and was granted bail before his eventual release upon meeting conditions.

The matter was adjourned for continuation of the trial-within-trial.

The case involves Sambo Dasuki, Aminu Baba Kusa, Acacia Holdings Limited, and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited, who are facing a 32-count charge bordering on alleged criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of ₦33.2 billion.

The court has fixed July 3, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
