World Bank targets electricity, broadband access for 90m Nigerians

The World Bank has unveiled plans to expand access to electricity and broadband connectivity for millions of Nigerians under its new 2026–2032 Country Partnership Framework.

The framework targets providing electricity access to 32 million Nigerians and broadband connectivity to 58 million people over the six-year period.

The World Bank presented the new framework at a Nigerian Economic Summit Group forum in Lagos, outlining its priorities for supporting Nigeria’s development and improving access to critical infrastructure.

The targets are expected to focus attention on two major challenges affecting millions of Nigerians — limited access to reliable electricity and gaps in affordable, high-speed internet connectivity.

If achieved, the programme could significantly expand digital access and improve economic opportunities for communities currently underserved by power and telecommunications infrastructure.
