Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited has received official Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) certification from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), authorising the company to conduct UAV operations across Nigeria.
The certification marks a significant regulatory milestone for Flybird as it expands its aviation services beyond traditional aircraft management.
Dr. Tracy Wilson, Flybird’s General Manager, said the certification “further reflects Flybird’s commitment to safety, compliance, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies.”
She noted that the authorisation enables the company to operate UAV and RPAS platforms across multiple sectors, including oil and gas, agriculture, energy, infrastructure inspection, aerial mapping, environmental monitoring, and security.
Captain Ahmed Borodo, Chief Executive Officer of Flybird, described the certification as both “a responsibility and an opportunity,” stressing that it demonstrates the company’s adherence to global aviation safety standards.
“It underscores our dedication to global standards of aviation safety and positions Flybird at the forefront of unmanned aviation solutions in Africa,” he said.
The company indicated that the certification aligns with its broader strategy to expand business aviation services and integrated air solutions across the continent. Flybird plans to leverage the new UAV/RPAS capabilities to provide precise, safe, and technologically advanced solutions for its clients, extending its expertise from managed aircraft operations to unmanned aviation applications.
The NCAA approval solidifies Flybird’s position as a regulated and compliant operator in Nigeria’s growing unmanned aviation sector, opening new operational opportunities across industries that increasingly rely on drone technology for inspection, monitoring, and data collection.
