Govt to resume work on Owerri cargo terminal project

Determined to facilitate cargo operations at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, the Federal Government will soon resume work on the project aimed at boosting economic development in the South East geo-political zone of the country.

Determined to facilitate cargo operations at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, the Federal Government will soon resume work on the project aimed at boosting economic development in the South East geo-political zone of the country.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Adamu Bello, who was in the company of the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, during the inspection of the project site in Owerri, said that work on the cargo terminal’s foundation had been completed while the imported super structure of the building would arrive the country soon.

She also assured the governor that contractors handling the project had been sufficiently mobilized and were only awaiting the arrival of the super structure to commence work on the site.

The Governor was also shown the cargo screening machines already supplied at the site that were only awaiting installation, as soon as the project is completed.

In his response, Governor Okorocha said he was pleased with the extent of development at the cargo terminal and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving approval to the early completion of the project to boost economic development in the South East geo-political zone of the country.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied on the inspection by top ministry officials and heads of parastatals under the Ministry of Aviation.
