ICSAN advocates adoption of AI by governance practitioners

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has emphasised the need for governance practitioners to fully embrace the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their operations.

Chair, ICSAN Corporate Members and Training Committee, Mrs Abiola Laseinde made this emphasis at a news conference in Lagos.
The conference was to unveil the institute’s forthcoming 2025 company secretaries and registrars forum.

The forum with the theme “Enhancing the AI mindset in delivering sustainability principles on data management and governance” is schedule to hold in Lagos on March 19.

Laseinde stated that the institute is on a mission to change the narrative around on how to embrace and leverage technology.

“Enhancing the AI mindset in the use of data management and governance. As governance professionals, we deal heavily with data.

“As company secretaries, we have our shareholders of data. We have directors data that we manage under swift Confidentiality with the right parameters and principles of data privacy in management and governance structure.

“So we have decided to infuse AI into this because we know that digital transformation is a key agenda. You either embrace digital transformation in whatever space you operate otherwise, you become obsolete. So we are always futuristic. We are forward thinking,” she said.

She added that the forum will be different from others over years of which there will be a panel session where each panelist can speak from their perspective and tell their stories.

The registrar, Babatunde Oladipo Okuneye advised professionals to remain align technologically and take full advantage of AI in order to remain relevant in business and everything.

A member of the committee, Mrs Solape Adesuyi added that one of the things the institute set up for is to enhance the governance and skills of all our members.

“So one of the things we have targeted this year’s conference is to ensure that all participants gain relevant and current, most recent knowledge,” she stated.
She added that non-members are also invited. Anybody interested in the AI industry as it affects governance are also invited. For people, more particularly registrars in the capital market are expected to be part of it.

She noted that the forum which is hybrid would attract a fee pay of N40,000 for physical participation and N30,000 for virtual participation.

Key speakers for the conference are the Associate Director and Data Engineering Africa Tech Platform for KPMG, Dr. Christopher Ogirri, Uganda-based corporate governance specialist, Mr. Bamidele Useni among others.
