The National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engineer Margaret Aina Oguntala, has charged members to always display continuous high professional development of their communities and the nation at large.
She advised on ceaseless training, workshops, and seminars on emerging engineering challenges.
Addressing his members at the inauguration of the NSE Offa branch in Offa, Kwara State, she urged collaborations with academic institutions, industries, and other professional bodies, “to empower our members with the skills, certifications and exposure needed for global competitiveness.”
Represented by the vice president of access management, Engineer Rachel Serumun Ugye, Oguntala challenged the new leadership led by Abdulfatai Yusuf on community engineering, which she described as one of NSE’s flagship initiatives.
“Use your collective knowledge, networks, and resources to lead development where it matters most,” she stated, adding that the strength of the NSE lies in its ability to influence engineering policies and development decisions.
“I encourage the NSE Offa Branch to build strong partnerships with: Local Councils and the State Government, as well as industries operating within your catchment area.
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin (NSE member), advised the pioneer chairman of Offa Branch to woo back members who are no longer actively involved in NSE activities.
The new Chairman, in his inaugural speech, said the occasion was not just a ceremonial event, “it is a landmark in the journey of engineering growth, regional development, and professional empowerment.”
He hinted that the event was like planting a seed that will grow into an engine of innovation, collaboration, and service, “not just for engineers, but for the entire Offa community and its environs.”
He, however, appreciated the National Executive Council of NSE for approving the establishment of the branch, and the steadfast support he enjoyed from the Ilorin Branch.
He commended the leadership of NSE and other stakeholders, founding members, and committed colleagues who worked tirelessly to make the day possible.
He listed his mission and vision to include: Establishing a befitting Engineering Centre in Offa-a hub for meetings, trainings, and innovation, as well as promoting infrastructure development by actively engaging government and community leaders.
