Investors stake N21.3 billion in equities in one week

A turnover of 1.675 billion shares was recorded on the floor of the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE), as investors staked N21.315 billion in 21,062 deals last week.

  This volume of transactions was however lower than a total of 2.083 billion units, valued at N22.467 billion that changed hands in 20,805 deals during the preceding week.

  Specifically, at the close of trading last week, the financial services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.252 billion shares valued at N10.567 billion traded in 12,320 deals, thus contributing 74.75 per cent and 49.58 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

  The conglomerates industry followed with a turnover of 162.423 million shares worth N2.844 billion in 1,526 deals.

  The third place was occupied by the consumer goods industry with 128.560 million shares worth N6.112 billion in 3,757 deals.

  Trading in the top three equities namely- FBN Holdings Plc, Access Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 551.516 million shares worth N3.414 billion in 5,571 deals, contributing 32.93per cent  and 16.01per cent  to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

  Also traded during the week were a total of 184,927 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N2.803 million executed in 29 deals compared with a total of 97,786 units valued at N2.074 million transacted last week in 35 deals

  Similarly, a unit of FGN bond valued at N103,582.19 was executed in one deal compared with a total of 982 units valued at N982,494.07 transacted last week in five deals.

  The NSE All-share index and market capitalization appreciated by 2.45 per cent to close on Friday at 30,103.81 and N10.045 trillion.

  Also, all indices finished higher during the week with the exception of the NSE ASeM Index that closed lower by 0.03 per cent.

  However, 43 equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 40 equities of the preceding week, as 22 equities depreciated in price, lower than 26 equities of the preceding week, while 131 equities remained unchanged higher than 130 equities recorded in the preceding week.
