Consumers pay more for cooking fuel in October

Consumers last month, paid more for cooking fuel in terms of kerosene use, as against the average price paid for cooking gas, latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have shown.

Consumers last month, paid more for cooking fuel in terms of kerosene use, as against the average price paid for cooking gas, latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have shown.

While the average price per litre paid by consumers for National Household Kerosene increased by 1.97% month-on-month and by 2.90% year-on-year to N324.72 in October 2019 from N318.46 in September 2019, that of cooking gas decreased by -0.47% to N4,104.83 for a 12.5kg cylinder.

However, with concerns raised by some stakeholders about the potential rise in the price of cooking gas during yuletide, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited has announced the arrival in Lagos of its vessel containing 12,000 metric tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

Many depots in Lagos had raised concerns that they had run out of stock, following a supply shortfall that led to a sharp increase in the retail price of the commodity.

According to the NBS, average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by -0.44% month-on-month and -8.29% year-on-year to N1,967.46 in October 2019 from N1,976.11 in September 2019.

States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Bauchi (N2,481.88), Borno (N2,382.29) and Yobe (N2,322.80).

States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Enugu (N1,615.38), Ebonyi (N1,616.67) and Delta (N1,681.43).

Similarly, average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG decreased by -0.47% month-on-month and by -7.68% year-on-year to N4,104.83 in October 2019 from N4,124.20 in September 2019.

States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG were Benue (N4,666.67), Anambra (N4,546.77) and Akwa Ibom (N4,522.50)

States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Kano (N3,600.00), Oyo (N3,702.40) and Ebonyi (N3,716.67).

For premium motor spirit, otherwise known as petrol, average price paid by consumers for the commodity decreased by -1.19% year-on-year and month-on-month by -0.04 to N145.48 in October 2019 from N145.53 in September 2019.

States with the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Abia (N147.09), Cross River (N146.94) and Benue (N146.75), while States with the lowest average price were Abuja (N143.50), Bauchi (N144.00) and Zamfara (N144.33).

Average price paid by consumers for automotive gas oil (diesel) decreased by -0.76% month-on-month and increased by 3.13% year-on-year to N226.19 in October 2019 from to N227.92 in September 2019.

States with the highest average price of diesel were Benue (N265.00), Borno (N257.92) and Abia (N243.33).

States with the lowest average price of diesel were Bauchi (N195.00), Adamawa (N206.67) and Yobe (N210.63).

States with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Enugu (N368.14), Imo (N357.68), and Plateau (N354.17), while States with the lowest average price per litre were Abuja (N253), Nasarawa (N265.61) and Kwara (N270.83).

Similarly, average price per gallon paid by consumers for National Household Kerosene decreased by -0.61% month-on-month and increased by 3.15% year-on-year to N1,209.84 in October 2019 from N1,217.28 in September 2019.

States with the highest average price per gallon of kerosene were Gombe (N1,371.43), Borno (N1,350.00) and Jigawa (N1,315.38).

States with the lowest average price per gallon of kerosene were Ogun (N1,085.38), Oyo (N1,087.14) and Osun (N1,099.50).
