The Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, has called for proper usage and maintenance of structure as he commissioned various projects in Kaduna State.

Speaking early in the week at the commissioning of the block of College of Medicine, Kaduna State University, Echono noted that proper use of the projects will forestall early dilapidation. He noted that since the agency operates with limited resources, construction rates are very high now.

“You will do well to ensure that early and immediate attention is given to any failing component(s) and facilities in the buildings in tandem with the proverb that says, “A stitch in time saves nine”, he warned.

Echono informed that the school was the forth institution where TETFund projects are being commissioned as part of a series that will see an estimated 162 exceptional and iconic projects being commissioned in 28 states of the federation in 54 beneficiary institutions spread across the six geo-political zones of the country.

“As earlier highlighted in Kaduna township alone, TETFund projects are to be commissioned in four institutions. We are done with the first three institutions, now remaining the Kaduna State University.

“Let me remark here that the projects being commissioned today in the various institutions were painstakingly screened through an assessment criteria before being adjudged suitable for commissioning.

“No doubt, the financing of the projects by TETFund are a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to the provision of requisite physical infrastructure in the nation’s public tertiary institutions. It is our commitment at TETFund to ensure that value is obtained for funds allocated to the benefitting institutions, to aid teaching, learning and research and by implication, make them globally competitive.

“I wish to commend the Vice Chancellor and management of the university for successfully executing and completing the project to be commissioned today. With the achievement of this feat, the Fund believes the project will significantly impact on the training of students, while providing a conducive working environment for staff and students.”

Adding: “By way of a brief, the project to be commissioned here today, that is, the Construction of the Faculty of Medicine, come under the 2014-2016 (merged) annual intervention category, with a total cost of N423 million.

“Management of the university is commended for ensuring quality and timely delivery, despite the volatility in the economy. It is for this reason we are here to cut the tapes, to officially signal the commencement of the use of the facility.

“The Fund will continue to support you as you judiciously utilize allocated funds for projects approved for your institution”, Echono promised.
