Hassan Al-ameen Williams is an entertainer. The 10-year-old, who is also a rapper, is from Oyo State, but was born in Lagos. Recalling how his journey into the entertainment world began, he said: “I started my musical career at the age of five. My dad, who noticed that whenever I listened to any song, I quickly picked up the lyrics, encouraged me to develop this skill. He would ask me to sing certain songs over and over again. He has been my inspiration.

“One day, he called me and asked about my plans for the future. So, I told him I would love to be a musician. Since then, he has been giving me support in every way.” Hassan has some things to show for his efforts and his dad’s full support. “I won the Murkremisce Rap Freestyle Competition last year. I was given a huge amount by Murkremisce. Presently, I have been nominated as kid entertainer of the year by Star Kids Award and Wonder Kids Award. I pray I win these awards,” he said.

On his achievements so far, he said: “I have recorded seven tracks, and presently, I have two videos online, with TV stations playing it back to back. My latest video is titled Hola. It is also available on YouTube.

So, what are the challenges he has been facing in the industry?
“I face a lot of challenges, as it is not easy combining school and my music career. I have to rehearse most of the time and then find time to also study. But with discipline, good management and my parents’ support, I have been able to cope.

Who are his role models?
“My role models are Reminisce, Olamide, CDQ and other big musical artistes,” he said.

What problem is he helping to solve with his music?
“The major problem I am solving right now is entertaining people with my talents and making them happy. People don’t easily give kids opportunity to perform on big platforms, such as organised by big people in the society and MTN Tour, among others. And even when my dad tries to convince them that I’m really good, they find it difficult giving me the opportunity to perform.

“Only very few people that have heard about me or who have watched my video or my performance would allow me to perform at their events. But I believe with time, everything will be alright and that problem will be solved. My vision is to be great and successful in everything I do.”

Does he have any advice for his peers?
“My advice to my peers and others is that they should be focused and believe in themselves.”
