NAF airstrikes crush bandit hideout in Niger, neutralise scores of terrorists
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralised scores of terrorists and dismantled their logistics hub in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, during a three-day operation.
The operation, codenamed “KONAN DAJI,” was conducted following credible intelligence and aerial surveillance, which revealed a significant presence of heavily armed terrorists in the area.
The terrorists were suspected to be responsible for the deadly IED attacks in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, on December 19, 2024, that resulted in numerous casualties and widespread panic.
NAF fighter jets carried out precision airstrikes on identified terrorist hideouts, resulting in multiple secondary explosions, indicating the destruction of weapons and ammunition.
The operation, part of the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has significantly weakened the operational capabilities of the bandits and rendered the Alawa Forest uninhabitable for their activities.
The NAF, in collaboration with ground forces, is committed to clearing the Alawa Forest and its surrounding areas of criminal elements to restore lasting peace and stability to the region.
Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the Director of Public Relations and Information at the NAF Headquarters, emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining national security.
He stated that operations like KONAN DAJI demonstrate the NAF’s resolve to protect Nigerians from terrorism and other security threats.
