Ex-agitator gets award from coalition for uplifting Niger Delta communities

The Coalition of Niger Delta Intellectuals from Diaspora (CNDID), has presented an award to Selky Mile Torughedi in recognition of his commitment in the struggle for the development of the Niger Delta Region and its people.
 
The non-governmental organisation of Niger Students who studied in various universities abroad presented the award dinner in Abuja, expressed their gratitude to Torughedi and his fellow compatriots for leading agitations that led to the economic and political advancement and development of the Niger Delta Region.
 
The group in a statement made available in Abuja maintained that Torughedi also known as Gen. ‘Young Shall Grow’ struggles brought about the rise in the human resources development of the Niger Delta people and the region. 

 
The group maintained that the struggles resulted in education, acquisition of skills and infrastructural development through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Niger Delta Ministry and the Presidential Amnesty Programmed.
 
Speaking at the dinner, the group expressed great appreciation for his efforts and roles played to attract federal interventions in order to address and assuage the problems of the region and its people. 
 
They further stressed the need for unity amongst all the compatriots stressing that it is necessary for peace in the region and also among the entire sister tribes in the region as there can never be any meaningful development without peace in the region.
 
They noted that the region could grind to a halt in terms of agricultural, economic, commercial, Infrastructural and social activities without peace and unity.
 
Torughedi in an appreciation of the award urged the group to avoid political entanglements but rather focus on their intellectual prowess and to deploy same as think tanks in order to proffer solutions to the myriad of problems facing the region.
 
He urged them to create programs that would foster industriousness that will engage people in the region.
 
The group further urged him no to relent in the good work of philanthropist and the defence of the economic, educational, infrastructural as well as the political rights of the Niger Delta People and to work consistently with his fellow compatriots continually to move the region forward.

stressing the need to mend fences with other compatriots so that they can foster an unbreakable cooperation for the good of the people and the region.
