Finland urges strong trade, economic ties with Nigeria

The Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria, Ms Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury has called for strong trade and economic relationship between her country and Nigeria.

Suomela-Chowdhury made the call when she visited President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (ABUCCI), Tony Ejinkonye, in Abuja over the weekend.

The envoy explained that the aim of the mission was to seek for avenues for strong trade and economic relationship between the two countries.

She said the embassy was poised to collaborate with the chamber to work on a synergy that will improve bilateral trade relationship in respective countries According to her, there is need to promote the activities of some notable Finnish companies in Nigeria, to engender stronger ties with the economic climate of Nigeria.

She disclosed that there are many Finland companies seeking to do business in Nigeria, especially in the area of health and well-being industry.

The envoy urged the chamber to collaborate with the embassy to enable Finish companies thrive in the country. She said that a one day event was being organised by the mission to bring all stakeholders in the health and well-being Industry together on November 3, in Lagos.

The President of ABUCCI, Tony Ejinkeonye appreciated the ambassador for the visit and intimated her that the chamber’s focus during his tenure was to seek for trade cooperation between Nigerian businessmen and their foreign counterparts.

He said that Finland fell within the area where the chamber was yet to establish trade ties and implored the embassy and other interested companies in Finland to participate in the forth coming Abuja International Trade fair.

Their participation, he said, would provide a laudable platform for the Finnish companies to showcase their products to the international community. Both parties agreed to work on a synergy that will improve bilateral trade relationship in their respective countries.
