Firm pays N142m claims to deceased workers’ families

No fewer than 71 families of deceased workers of the Lagos State Government have benefited N142 million claims from the Lagos State Group Life/Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme insured by LASACO Assurance Plc.

The beneficiaries are families of the deceased in all Local Government Areas in Lagos State and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said the welfare of workers of the State was a top priority of his administration.

Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, added that the payment was the second in the series, as the first one was paid in 2013. The governor said, “The government cares for the welfare of workers and promised that what is accrues to the families of the deceased will be paid to them”.

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Babatunde Rotinwa, urged those in active service to support the government by giving their best, adding that their efforts would not be in vain.

The Deputy Managing Director, LASACO Assurance Plc, Rilwan Oshinusi, said Lagos State was the first state in the country to come up with life insurance package for its workers.

He stated that the company was committed to best insurance practices adding that the benefits of government’s employees would not be compromised.

The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Folashade Onanuga, said the insurance package was just one of the packages to be benefitted by the deceased’s families adding that that contributory pension scheme and terminal benefits of the deceased would also be paid to them.
