Industries lose about 17% yearly sales to power disruptions – Erhiwha

Lightbay Energy Resources

The Chief Executive Officer of Lightbay Energy Resources, Engr. Tega Erhiwha, has said the nation needs the technology at this critical time when industries lose an estimated 9 per cent to 17 per cent of annual sales due to power disruptions and equipment damage caused by erratic voltage.

He stated this at the just-concluded 10th Powerelec Nigeria exhibition in Lagos, where the company showcased its new partnership with global giant NeoPower, featuring industrial voltage stabilizers integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) Remote Monitoring Technology including the introduced a “smart” intervention to keep steady voltage supply for sensitive facilities.

He noted that the solutions are engineered to operate reliably under poor grid conditions, voltage fluctuations, and unbalanced loads, making them particularly well-suited for Nigeria’s industrial, commercial, and critical infrastructure sectors, where power quality challenges frequently impact productivity and asset life.

According to him, it’s range of industrial stabilizers (from 5kVA – 4,000kVA) are designed to handle the extreme fluctuations.

Unlike traditional units, he said, these new systems feature individual phase control and integrated Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, which allows facility managers to monitor power health in real-time from anywhere in the world via a smartphone or computer.

Beyond importing technology, Erhiwha said the company is planning to establish a local assembly plant in Nigeria in collaboration with its Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Noting that Nigeria’ future would be dominated by renewable energy, he argues that power quality must be the foundation. “By stabilizing power today, we are safeguarding Nigeria’s industrial productivity and enabling a more sustainable energy future,” Erhiwha added.

Throughout the three-day exhibition, Lightbay demonatrated how its integrated capabilities in engineering, procurement, fabrication (EPF), automation and instrumentation, power operations and maintenance, and voltage regulation are supporting key development objectives, including SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
