Firm to boost non-oil revenue with calcium carbonates plant
As part of efforts to boost the country’s non-oil revenue, reduce the importation of calcium carbonates into the country and encourage local production, Izedon Carbonates has launched a calcium carbonates production plant at Lampese in Edo state.
According to the company, the plant is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery with highly automated processes to enhance efficiency. Speaking at the commissioning of the plant at Lampese, Chairman and Founder, Izedon Carbonates, Osayi Izedonmwen, said IzeCarb is the only integrated calcium carbonates production plant in Nigeria with a Federal Government-licensed and approved quarry to mine high-quality dolomite and process it into calcium carbonates which serves as the essential raw material for various products, including oil and gas drilling fluids, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), paints and coatings and Plaster of Paris (POP).
His words: “As a result, IzeCarb operates a “Quarry to Customer” model and boasts a fleet of 50-ton delivery trucks that take products directly to customers, setting it apart from others.”
Pointing out that dolomite is one of Nigeria’s mineral resources with huge deposits in Edo State that can boost Nigeria’s non-oil revenue, create jobs and diversify the economy, he said import substitution is their end goal, saying: “We foresee a future in which Nigeria will no longer need to import calcium carbonates because of the high-quality calcium carbonates produced at IzeCarb.”
He revealed that over the next six months, they intend to meet current local demand and by the end of next year, scale up production to 200,000 metric tons annually. “We have bold ambitions to grow our production capacity to one million metric tons within three years to serve Nigeria and the West Africa sub-region,” he said.
Managing Director/ CEO of Bank of Industry (BoI), Dr Olasupo Olusi, who was represented by the bank’s south-south regional manager, Babatunde Ajala, commended the company for the remarkable project, adding that BoI would support the company’s future expansion to enable it to actualise its dream of import substitution.
Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Tajudeen Suleman, who was also present at the plant’s groundbreaking ceremony in February, expressed delight at the commissioning of the production plant.
Izedonmwen said they currently produce in various forms including ground calcium carbonate of varying micron sizes, coated calcium carbonate and dolomite aggregate.
