Nigeria to showcase mining prospects at African Mining Week 2025

Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Alake, will take part in a one-on-one session at the African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 conference in Cape Town, South Africa, where he is expected to highlight the country’s efforts to reposition its mining sector.

The conference, scheduled for October 1 to 3, will run under the theme “Leadership and Innovation Shaping the Future of Mining” and will convene policymakers, investors, and industry leaders from across the continent.

According to the organisers, Alake’s session will focus on Nigeria’s progress in unlocking opportunities in large-scale mining and diversifying its economy through solid minerals. His participation is expected to underscore the government’s reforms aimed at attracting investment into the sector and strengthening its regulatory framework.

Nigeria has placed renewed emphasis on the development of its vast deposits of lithium, gold, iron ore, and other solid minerals as part of its broader economic strategy. The government has consistently stressed the role of mining in creating jobs, generating revenue, and supporting industrialisation.

In a statement announcing the minister’s participation, the organisers of African Mining Week noted that the platform “offers an opportunity for African countries to present their mining strategies and investment opportunities to international stakeholders.”

The event will also feature fireside chats with mining ministers from Egypt, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, alongside Nigeria’s presentation. Delegates will engage in discussions on policy implementation, beneficiation, and investment strategies within Africa’s mining landscape.

African Mining Week is being held in parallel with the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference, creating a joint forum for dialogue between the mining and energy sectors.
