LBS to host family business conference on governance

Lagos Business School

The Lagos Business School (LBS) Family Business Initiative will , on March 26, hold its 2026 International Family Business Conference (IFBC) at the Ecobank Pan African Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Themed ‘Beyond Survival: Governance and Culture as the Foundation of Lasting Family Legacies’, this year’s conference builds on previous editions that examined institutional thinking and succession planning, shifting focus to the core values and behavioural discipline that transform governance frameworks into lived practice.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr Okey Nwuke, Director of the LBS Family Business Initiative, said the conference is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen family-owned enterprises across the continent.

He noted that such businesses account for over 80 per cent of private companies in Africa, yet continue to struggle with governance gaps, succession failures and the absence of professional management structures.

Channels Media Group founder and chairman, John Momoh, will deliver the keynote address.

Other speakers include Kunle Elebute, past chairman of KPMG Africa, and senior figures from the legal, financial, and manufacturing sectors.

Nwuke also called on journalists to devote greater attention to family businesses, arguing that media coverage directly shapes policy decisions and public perception of the sector.

Beyond the March conference, LBS announced additional programmes for 2026, including a three-day seminar in May on managing family businesses beyond their founders and two governance and succession programmes scheduled for June and October.
