Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), the promoter of Lekki Deep Sea Port, has enhanced security infrastructure with the port and its host communities as it gets a divisional police station.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, represented by the Operations Director, Yang Xixiong, described the police station as a crucial addition to the port’s infrastructure.

He emphasised that the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to safety, security and the well-being of individuals visiting or working at the port.

Qiang noted that ports are dynamic, bustling environments essential for facilitating global trade and connecting nations, adding that with such activity comes the responsibility to ensure the safety of goods, people and infrastructure.

Qiang explained that as the company expands its operations and strives for excellence in every aspect of the port’s development, it becomes increasingly clear that ensuring a safe and secure environment is fundamental to continued growth and success.

He further highlighted that the police station is more than just a physical structure as it symbolises the company’s proactive approach to securing the port, supporting law enforcement and contributing to the safety of the host communities.

Qiang explained that the facility would serve as a central hub for policing operations, equipped with the necessary resources to address the diverse and complex security challenges associated with a major port.

He described the collaboration between the port and the Port Authority Police as a testament to the importance of partnerships in creating a safer and more efficient working environment for employees, visitors, and stakeholders.

“This new police station will provide dedicated space for law enforcement officers to effectively carry out their duties, respond to incidents promptly, and maintain a visible presence throughout the port area. It will also enhance coordination with other agencies, ensuring that we are well-prepared to handle any challenges swiftly and efficiently,” he said.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Ibrahim Maikaba, expressed gratitude to the Lekki Port management for its unwavering support and commitment to constructing a standard security facility.

Maikaba reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property within the Free Trade Zone, aligning with existing laws that promote a conducive environment for commercial activities to thrive in and around Lekki Deep Sea Port.

He disclosed that officers deployed to the newly established division have been adequately briefed to work closely with the port’s management, the immediate community and other stakeholders.

Also, Maikaba emphasised that personnel of the Nigerian Police Force has been empowered to implement a robust security architecture, proactively addressing criminal threats, pursuing law violators and ensuring thorough investigations of reported cases for prosecution in a competent court of law.

He requested the provision of a patrol van to enable prompt responses to distress calls, noting that it would significantly enhance the division’s capacity to discharge its duties effectively in line with global best practices.
