Minister leads corporate governance confab in Lagos

The yearly event organised in Lagos by the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria is expected to bring together experts from various sectors to discuss the impact of corporate governance in Nigeria.

As efforts to stave off the nation’ s economic recession intensifies, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelemah will lead other eminent Nigerians to the 2016 Corporate Governance Conference tomorrow.

The yearly event organised in Lagos by the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria is expected to bring together experts from various sectors to discuss the impact of corporate governance in Nigeria.

General Manager of the Society, Chioma Mordi, In a statement on Tuesday said the conference was part of the society’s commitment to the development of good corporate governance practice and ethics in Nigeria.

According to her, discussants at the conference which holds at the Lagos Oriental Hotel under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief Olusegun Osunkeye include Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Council President, Nigerian Stock Exchange; Mr. Oscar Onyema,, CEO, Nigerian Stock Exchange; Mr. Bolaji Balogun, CEO, Chapelhill Denham Group and Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje, CEO, RTC Advisory Services Ltd.,

In explaining the choice of the theme for this year, “Competing in an Era of Economic Changes: Corporate Governance and Structural Reforms”, Mordi, stressed that the current situation in the economy and the subject of recession being at the front burner of all discussions, prompted the Society to lend its voice.

“There are opportunities in difficult circumstances, business owner should engage in strategic sessions to compete in the environment they operate in,” she said.

She also stated that neglect in implementing corporate governance/sustainability principles and lack of structural reform has wrecked havoc on the business terrain of the economy and as such the government at different levels must rise up to the task of having a standard structure which is the backbone of the success of any thriving economy.
