The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has begun routine maintenance at its 430-megawatt Geregu Power Plant in Kogi State, as part of renewed efforts to boost operational efficiency and ensure a more reliable supply of electricity to the national grid.
The maintenance exercise, being carried out by Siemens Energy, the plant’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), is expected to last about four weeks. It forms part of NDPHC’s broader plan to sustain optimal generation capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure in line with the federal government’s electricity access goals.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, who led an inspection of the ongoing work, said the exercise would significantly improve the plant’s performance and reliability.
She noted that the company’s commitment to regular maintenance reflects its determination to maintain strong operational standards and support President Bola Tinubu’s vision for universal electricity access.
Adighije said, “We are here to participate and offer our full support to the Siemens team, who are onsite to carry out an extended minor inspection. Geregu has three Siemens turbine units with a combined installed capacity of about 430 megawatts. This is a planned outage, and the Siemens team has proactively mobilised to conduct extended minor inspections, alignment checks, and other related works to ensure the units operate optimally.”
She added that the exercise also serves as a prelude to major inspections planned for the near future, stressing that NDPHC remains committed to ensuring the reliability of the nation’s critical power assets.
Adighije further explained that routine maintenance remains vital to operational efficiency and asset utilisation, which ultimately impacts the company’s revenue performance. “We want to be able to evacuate and commercialise all the electricity we generate to the grid,” she added.
