NIPOST restructures into seven zones

The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has finally been restructured to make its service delivery more efficient and run on learner resources, by collapsing its 38- territory structure, which it replaced with a seven-zone structure.

The new structure, which is with immediate effect, also restructured the postal organisation into six business commercial units including e-commerce department in order to take advantage of emerging business trends.
Under the new arrangement, each of the six geopolitical zones of the country constitutes a zone in NIPOST. Lagos stands as a zone because of the volume of business that is handled in the area, which formerly had two territories.
The Postmaster-General of the Federation, Bisi Adegbuyi, who announced the new development in a circular, appointed Udo Ekong, Zonal Manager, in charge of Enugu; A.E Abiyangha, Zonal Manager, Ibadan; and Iroamachi, Zonal Manager, Lagos.
Others are Adebola Ayeni, Zonal Manager, Kaduna; Stephen Mbaya, Zonal Manager, Abuja; Egwu I. Egwu, Zonal Manager, Bauchi and Usman Danlami, Zonal Manager Benin.According to Adegbuyi, “the restructuring is in line with the principle of delegation and devolution of powers, to enable NIPOST run in a more efficient manner to engender operational efficiency, better service delivery, diversification and inclusive growth process by all the members of staff of the organisation.”
He added that the zonal structure will make decision making easier, as the powers to take critical decision for the good of the business is now vested in the zones. To man the new six business commercial units, which were created in line with the reform geared towards operational efficiency and sustained growth are; Wambai Yahaya, General Manager (GM), Mails; Taiye Ajayi, GM, Counter Services; and Rufai Yahaya, GM, EMS/Purcle Services. Others are George, Ngidi, GM, Properties and Workshops, Osube Backshaw, GM, e-Commerce and Logistics, and Mohammed Makhtar, GM, Financial Services.
The Zonal Managers and Managers of the Business units would be given revenue targets that they are expected to make as well as create new services and seek how to deepen always existing ones.

Well this is a good move especially with the fact that the zonal manager have being given revenue targets, goals and power to grow their sectors. it is most important that this zonal manager focus on moving the postal agency from just mail delivery to a small and medium business partner, that would be able to provide all manner of services to small business. There is no reason why NIPOST can’t and shouldn’t be an entity like fedex or ups.
We will review and take appropriate action.
