Tragedy struck in Kano at the weekend as three siblings perished in a boat capsize at Tiga Dam in Tudunwada local government Area of the state.

The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira, all from the Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community.

The tragedy reportedly occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday when the canoe carrying the three girls overturned on the dam.

Confirming the development, the Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government Area, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, told journalists’ that the incident is shocking.

Sa’adatu expressed her condolences to the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu, particularly the families of the deceased.

She also prayed for strength and patience for their parents, relatives and friends to bear the loss, while calling on Allah to prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy in the future.

Although efforts to reach the Kano state Fire Service was not successful as the Spokesperson Saminu Nasiru did not respond to calls, the family of the deceased said to have buried the victims.

Accident related to boat capsize is common in Kano with several cases reported in recent times.

No fewer than 20 people, mostly women and children, have lost their lives in Badau village, Bagwai LGA of Kano state following a boat mishap sometimes last year.

Another Tragedy struck in Kauranmata village in Madobi local government area of Kano State as four people lost their lives after a canoe they were traveling with capsized.
