Sterling Bank seeks collaboration to drive agric transformation

With less than a month to the 2025 edition of Agriculture Summit Africa (ASA), Sterling Bank has called on policymakers, investors, and agribusiness stakeholders to work together in advancing sustainable agricultural growth across the continent. The summit, themed “Survival of the Greenest: Reclaiming Africa’s Food Destiny,” will hold from November 6 to 7 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Now in its eighth year, the summit aimed to explore innovative financing models and policy measures that can strengthen food systems and promote inclusive agricultural development.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, said the initiative reflected the bank’s commitment to building a more sustainable and food-secure Africa. Suleiman noted that agriculture remained central to the continent’s social, economic, and environmental transformation, adding that the goal is to mobilise collective effort to reclaim Africa’s food destiny.

He said the yearly summit has become a platform that unites policymakers, investors, and innovators to drive sustainability and innovation in agriculture. Suleiman observed that with more than 60 per cent of the world’s uncultivated arable land, Africa holds the potential to become a global agricultural powerhouse. However, productivity challenges, limited access to finance, and the growing impacts of climate change continue to hinder progress toward food security.
