YEDC commits to power infrastructure upgrade, supports electrocution victims

YEDC

Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), yesterday, disclosed that efforts are ongoing to upgrade power infrastructure in Adamawa, Borno, Taraba and Yobe states, which it took over from the government.

The company also said that it would provide succour to victims of recent electrocution in Taraba. The Taraba State Police Command, on Monday, reported the electrocution of a family of four around Dinyavo area of Jalingo, the state capital.

Regretting over the development, YEDC gave an assurance that it has already taken over all medical expenses of the family, while investigations are ongoing.

“The event was such a tragic one and YEDC is working closely with the Taraba State Government, the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), security agencies and other stakeholders to find out the immediate and remote causes of the event to ensure such incidences do not re-occur in any of its franchise areas,” the company said in a statement.

It noted that the supply of electricity to customers safely and reliably remained sacrosanct. YEDC said since the company took over the franchise, it has continued to rehabilitate the old network within Adamawa, Borno, Taraba and Yobe with various pilot projects carried out to replace old conductor wires with recline cables, which will improve the quality of energy delivered to customers and drastically cut down aggregate technical and commercial loses.
