Zenith Bank leads gainers as index rises by 0.8 per cent

ZENITH Bank closed higher at the end of yesterday’s transactions on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

It led 24 others with 8.93 per cent to close at N15.25 per share.

Following Zenith Bank yesterday was Eternaoil, adding 8.18 per cent to close at N1.72 per share.

Other gainers of yesterday’s transactions include African prudential, Stanbic IBTC, LawUnion&Rock, adding 4.95,4.85 and 4.69 per cent to close at N2.33,N16.85 and N0.67 per share.

First City Monument Bank gained 4.55 per cent to close at N1.84 per share. Presco added 4.19 per cent to close at N32.30 per share.

Learn Africa and Nigerian Breweries also garnered 4.17 and 3.84 per cent to close at N0.75 and N116.31 per share.

However, nine stocks constituted the losers chart, as fidson topped the losers chart with 4.83 per cent to close at N2.56 per share.

Mansard followed with 4.74 per cent to close at N2.61 per share. Cutix lost 4.65 per cent to close at N1.64 per share. Livestock shed 4.23 per cent to close at N1.36 per share.

Air service, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, Dangote cement lost 2.11, 1.40 and 1.35 per cent to close at N1.86, N3.53 and N160.00 per share.

Access Bank dropped 1.22 per cent to close at N4.85 per share. United bank for Africa shed 0.53 per cent to close at N3.78 per share.

Diamond Bank also shed 0.43 per cent to close at N2.29 per share.
Consequently, the market capitalisation of the NSE rose by N70 billion or 0.8 per cent due to share price appreciation by some highly capitalised equities, from N9.284 trillion to N9.354 trillion.

Also, the All-Share Index which opened at 27,004.50 rose by 201.45 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 27,205.95.
Law Union and Rock Insurance emerged the most traded stock, accounting for 32.85 million shares worth N21.09 million achieved in 11 deals.

Axa Mansard came second with 30.88 million shares valued N80.61 million traded in 14 deals, while  FBN Holdings sold 16.10 million shares worth N76.75 million in exchanged 352 deals.

Transcorp sold 14.88 million shares valued N19.84 million in 160 deals and while investors’ staked N69.94 million on 14.17 million shares of Access Bank  traded in 251 deals.

In all, a total of 179.06 million shares worth N1.47 billion were exchanged by investors’ in 2,747 deals. This was in contrast to 240.79 billion shares valued N2.41 billion traded in 3,061 deals on Wednesday.
