Govt okays N2.8 trillion to lift Police
THE Nigeria Police Force (NPF) may have cause to celebrate the New Year in grand style. The Federal Government has packaged a special intervention fund to the tune of N2.8 trillion to lift the force to international standard.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Lame, disclosed this at an interactive session with the House Committee on Police Affairs just as the committee expressed surprise at the state of police detention cells nationwide.
Defending the 2010 budget proposal for the ministry, the Minister disclosed that following the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Police Reform, the Federal Government approved the sum of N2.8 trillion to address the decay in the NPF so as to raise it to international standard.
